Call for Submissions (Alberta): RBC Emerging Artist Mentorship Program – Alberta Playwrights’ Network – Deadline Extended

The deadline to apply for this program has been extended to March 17!

Through the generous support of the RBC Foundation, Alberta Playwrights’ Network is able to continue offering the RBC Emerging Artists Mentorship Program providing individual and project development to emerging and mid-career playwrights, through mentorship from a roster of professional playwrights.

Program Details

Selected participants must come with either a play or a concept for a play they wish to work on throughout the program. There are 10 available spots. Though the mentors will be based out of either Calgary or Edmonton, residents from all communities within Alberta are encouraged to apply. Once selected, participants will be matched with a mentor. Past mentors have included Meg Braem, Marty Chan, Conni Massing, Mieko Ouchi, Gordon Pengilly, Sharon Pollock, Clem Martini, David van Belle, Beth Graham, Karen Hines, Caroline Russell-King, & Collin Doyle.

The program will run from March 2021 to August 2021, with a minimum of 8 meetings between mentors and participants in that time. Due to the variety of individual schedules, mentors and participants will decide their own schedule of meetings. There will also be two group meetings and one professional development event in each city. Participants are expected to attend these meetings and events. The program will culminate in either a public reading of excerpts of the mentees’ work, or the publication of an online anthology. The fee for the program is 300.00, which helps to cover space rental, administrative costs, and other program expenses.
