Call for Submissions (Alberta): Apply To Be Alberta’s Next Artist In Residence

Applications are now being accepted from artists from any artistic discipline to serve as Alberta’s next Artist in Residence/Arts Ambassador. The deadline to apply is August 24, 2020.

About the program

Art enriches the lives of Albertans, promotes creativity and innovation, and contributes to a more diversified economy. This program seeks to inspire innovation in the arts and to promote a wider understanding and appreciation of the arts and artists in Alberta.

Through this program, an Albertan artist will receive a grant to serve a one-year term as Alberta’s Artist in Residence / Arts Ambassador, and they will create an art project that promotes the value of the arts in Alberta. During the term, the artist will engage with different communities, share their perspectives and an “inside look” of their artistic process, and attend important cultural events as Alberta’s arts ambassador.

Previous Artist in Residence

Alberta’s first Artist in Residence was Lauren Crazybull, a Blackfoot Dene visual artist. During her term, Lauren engaged with communities across Alberta—from Medicine Hat to Fort McKay—and completed an art project, “TSIMA KOHTOTSITAPIIHPA Where are you from?” that premiered at Latitude 53 gallery in Edmonton on January 24, 2020.
