About Fruit Loop
As Pride events adapt to the COVID-19 paradigm, we have moved programming online to accommodate our new normal.
The Fruit Loop Society of Alberta is an Edmonton-based, volunteer-led non-profit social enterprise. We provide inclusive events, dynamic social media, and special initiatives for Alberta’s LGBTQ2S+ community. Our traditional Pride season event would feature a street party of several thousand attendees on the ending Saturday of Edmonton’s pride week. This has historically highlighted local entertainment, businesses, non-profits, and charitable organizations. A keystone of Fruit Loop’s events is a partnership with a community partner wherein proceeds from the event are donated to bolster community capacity in an effort to create a safer, more inclusive and diverse Edmonton LGBTQ2s+ fellowship.
This year’s event will still achieve many of the primary objectives of Fruit Loop’s pride event, including a partnership with the Edmonton 2 Spirit Society; E2S is a local non-profit that works to re-establish and enhance traditional roles and responsibilities of Two Spirit peoples in Indigenous communities and create supportive environments within all societies for contemporary Two Spirit peoples.
The new dynamic of this year’s event will bring the party online, streamed with a combination of live performances and pre-recorded segments from local personalities and community organizations spreading a message of mental health, goodwill, hope, and fellowship. In consideration that this event is produced from a single venue, safety protocols as directed by Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health will be strictly observed. Our highest priority is to provide the environment where our performers and support staff can safely conduct their operations. Fruit Loop has selected the venue as it allows us to abide by physical distancing requirements.
