DESIGN ONLINE

In an effort to continue creating safely during this pandemic, playwrights, musicians and performers are taking their talents online. However, there seem to be fewer opportunities for set/costume designers in this virtual realm. It takes a team of artists from ALL disciplines to create a great piece of theatre, so as The Tiger’s Hearts Collective takes to the virtual stage, we are connecting with local set/costume designers to help bring those stories to life!

Tiger’s Hearts is all about increasing representation and visibility for women in classical theatre. This means creating opportunities and space for female-identifying artists, but also reinventing visual storytelling in the classical genre to be more inclusive. Imagine a Henry V where female actors wear armour designed and built to fit THEIR bodies? Or a King Lear brought to life with a set designed to tell the story of a matriarchal society?

Until it’s safe for us to make theatre together again, we want to continue exploring these stories in a virtual space where ALL theatre artists can create and connect. We also want to build professional relationships with local designers that will continue growing once the theatres have reopened! To that end, all upcoming Tiger’s Hearts online events will be featuring artwork from local female-identifying set/costume designers and visual artists, starting with Troilus & Cressida LIVE online with #CanadaPerforms on Monday, May 25th at 6pm MST!

With permission, artwork will be shared on our social media platforms and artists featured in online performances will receive an honorarium fee for their work. Get in touch at tigersheartscollective@gmail.com to learn more and make sure you Like/Follow Tiger’s Hearts Collective on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter where we’ll be posting play quotes to inspire your designs!

We don’t want any artist to fall through the cracks; get in touch to help us maintain interdisciplinary connections within our artistic community. To have your work considered for the #CanadaPerforms performance of Troilus & Cressida on May 25th, please get in touch via email at tigersheartscollective@gmail.com before May 23rd.
