Call for Submissions (Alberta): RBC Emerging Artist Mentorship Program

RBC EMERGING ARTISTS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Through the generous support of the RBC Foundation, Alberta Playwrights’ Network is able to continue offering the RBC Emerging Artists Mentorship Program, designed to provide individual and project development to emerging and mid-career playwrights, through mentorship from our roster of professional playwrights.

Program Details

Selected participants must come with a play or a concept for a play they wish to work on throughout the program. Participants are selected by the Mentorship Committee and APN staff. There are 10 available spots (5 in Calgary & 5 in Edmonton), and residents from other communities within Alberta are encouraged to apply as well.

Once selected, participants will be matched with a mentor. Past mentors have included Meg Braem, Marty Chan, Conni Massing, Mieko Ouchi, Gordon Pengilly, Sharon Pollock, Clem Martini, David van Belle, Beth Graham, Karen Hines, Caroline Russell-King, & Collin Doyle.

The program will run from February to July 2020, with a minimum of 8 meetings between mentors and participants in that time. Due to the variety of individual schedules, mentors and participants will decide their own schedule of meetings.

There will also be two group meetings and one professional development event in each city. Participants are expected to attend these meetings and events.

The program will culminate in a public presentation of excerpts from the plays crafted by the participants. The fee for the program is 300.00, which helps to cover space rental, administrative costs, and other program expenses.

Interested applicants should make note of the following dates. These are intended to provide a rough timeline of the program and subject to change:

  • Intro meeting – Week of February 16, 2020
  • Midterm meeting – Weekend of May 2/3, 2020
  • Professional development session – Weekend of June 27/28, 2020 OR July 4/5, 2020
  • Final presentations – July 25, 2020 OR August 1, 2020
