Heading into its 27t​ h​ year, The Badlands Passion Play (situated in scenic Drumheller, Alberta) is a large scale outdoor, musically charged production depicting the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The production has over 120 actors and animals onstage, playing to up to 2000 people a night over 9 performances from July 3-19, 2020. The cast and band are made up of paid performers and a multitude of volunteer performers.

The performances take place in the spectacular Badlands Amphitheatre, a 2500 seat outdoor theatre, nestled in the hills of the Canadian Badlands. The performance takes place on over 6 acres of playing space making this Canada’s largest outdoor stage.

The 2020 Badlands Passion Play is written by Royal Sproule with music by Bill Hamm. Rehearsals start, May 7t​ h​ for lead roles and musicians and May 15t​ h​ for ensemble roles.

Rehearsals are held Thursdays to Sundays for lead roles and Fridays to Sundays for ensemble roles.

Performances are:July3–5,10–12&17–19. Lead Roles we are looking to cast:

Jesus Understudy
Matthew Understudy
Mary Magdalene
John the Baptist

Lead Roles are paid positions. Equity Members are welcome to audition and if successful will be contracted under the DOT agreement.

We are also looking to fill a variety of volunteer supporting roles including Disciples (male and female), Teachers of the Law, and Romans.

Those who have auditioned before and/or have been in the show before are welcome to audition again. If you are unable to come to auditions but would still like to be considered for a role please let us know and we will try to accommodate you.

Auditions will be held at Evergreen Community Spaces (1709 8t​ h​ Ave NE, Calgary AB.) in the Elm Studio, on Saturday, January 25t​ h​ from 9am – 6pm. Please go to​ to secure an audition slot.

There will be further auditions in Drumheller, Alberta on February 8t​ h​ for both lead and supporting roles.

All actors must be prepared to do a cold read in the room from the script.
