Call for Submissions (Canmore): Mentor Actor Positions – Canmore Summer Theatre Festival

Call for Submissions (Canmore): Mentor Actor Positions – Canmore Summer Theatre Festival

The Canmore Summer Theatre Festival (CSTF) is a co-production between Canmore’s Pine Tree Players (PTP) and Calgary-based Artists’ Collective Theatre (ACT) and DIY Theatre (DIY). A unique aspect of the CSTF is that volunteers from PTP perform alongside and learn from theatre professionals.

This year, the CSTF team are proud to present William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and The Hobbit by Kim Selody based on the novel by J. R. R. Tolkein. Performances will take place outdoors at the Stan Rogers Stage in Centennial Park, Canmore.

Up to six Mentor Actor positions are available to theatre professionals that can demonstrate professional experience, expertise, and/or post-secondary training. In addition to mentoring volunteer cast members, Mentor Actors perform in the festival. The Festival Run is July 8th-19th, with performances of The Hobbit at 1pm and Much Ado About Nothing at 7pm. There will be no performances on July 13 and 14.

Mentor Actors are eligible for an honorarium of $250 + $220 for travel if they are commuting to Canmore from outside the Bow Valley. Although we cannot commit to paying more than the $250 honorarium, there is the possibility of additional compensation pending funding.

Auditions will take place February 29th, and March 1st 2020 in Canmore, AB, with callbacks being March 7th and 8th. Video auditions will also be accepted until March 1, 2020 but callbacks must be attended in person.

Rehearsals start March 29 and will be on Sundays from 10AM-6PM and Mondays from 6:00M-9:00PM, Canmore, Alberta. There will also be mid-week workshops, likely on Thursday evenings, that may require actor mentor attendance from time to time.

We encourage submissions from diverse artists of all backgrounds, regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, age, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Please express interest online at You will be required to submit a resume, headshot, a references document, and a cover letter outlining your theatre experience and how you might be an asset to the festival. Deadline to apply is January 31, 2020.
