If you need a script, an audition piece, an exercise to do with your drama class, technical information to help solve a problem, or if you just want to ‘read theatre’, the Theatre Alberta Library may just have what you’re looking for. With more than 22,000 titles in our collection, it is the largest independent, fully-circulating theatre library in Canada. Nearly 5,000 titles are borrowed each year by hundreds of Theatre Alberta members. They are either picked up at our Edmonton office or mailed out to locations across the province and across the country!
Our Librarian works hard to ensure that our collection remains up-to-date and relevant for members of the theatre community. She makes note of requests from Library users, keeps an eye on recently published titles, and puts together a list of items that we want to add to our collection. While we purchase many of the titles, it is simply not possible for us to buy them all.

We have created two Gift-A-Play wish lists – a Playwrights Canada Press wish list with titles for purchase through University of Toronto Press; and an Amazon.ca wish list. Both lists contain titles we would like to add to our catalogue. Purchasing from the Playwrights Canada Press list is a great way to support an important Canadian publisher and the playwrights in their inventory, while also supporting the Theatre Alberta Library. Click here to learn how to purchase Playwrights Canada Press titles from the University of Toronto Press.
Our combined wish lists contain 24 titles that we would like to acquire through this year’s Gift-A-Play Campaign. A sample of what we’re looking for includes:
- Mother’s Daughter by Kate Hennig
- Black Boys by Virgilia Griffith
- Th’owxiya: The Hungry Feast Dish by Joseph A. Dandurand
- The Enchanted Loom by Suvendrini Lena
- Sound and Music for the Theatre: The Art & Technique of Design by Deena Kaye and James LeBrecht
Heads up! A number of titles from our Amazon wish list are on sale right now. Check out the list and place your orders today!
