Want to be a playwright? We have the perfect opportunity for you!

The ATP Student Writers Group is a unique opportunity for high school students to explore the craft of playwriting with professional playwrights and guest artists from across Canada.

During this six month program, a select group of students will have the chance to be mentored in playwriting by a professional playwright, guest directors and dramaturgs, as well as visiting playwrights from across Canada. the students are also invited to attend all the productions in our 2019/2020 season, and will receive exclusive invites behind the scenes to rehearsals and other professional theatre events.

During this course each student will develop an original 10 min play. Their work will receive professional dramaturgical support as well as a full day workshop with Calgary’s finest directors and actors. The new scripts written by our student writers group will receive a staged reading by some of Calgary’s favourite actors in April 2020. During this celebratory evening each students new works will be showcased in a professional public staged reading in the Martha Cohen Theatre.

Additionally in 2020 the Student Writers Group final works will be remounted and featured in a curated presentation during the Jane’s Walk weekend May 2&3, 2020.

WHO: Open to high school students in grades 9-12 and students can participate multiple years in a row to continue honing their skills.

WHEN: Nov 18- May 3 2020. The group meets Monday evenings from 7pm-9pm.

WHERE: The ATP Boardroom in Arts Commons on the +15 level (access through Stage Door, 220 9th Ave S.E.)

COST: $150 per student. If cost is a barrier, there are bursaries available. Please contact Talore Peterson.
