The Government of Alberta is pursuing policy and legislative options to deliver on its commitment to adopt an Arts Professions Act modeled on the 2009 Saskatchewan statute, to give formal recognition to artists, their representative associations, their freedom of expression, and their economic – including contractual – rights.
To ensure the most up-to-date information and that engaged artists are involved on the current initiative, you are invited to provide feedback through a short online survey at https://extranet.gov.ab.ca/opinio6//s?s=46698. The survey is designed to verify whether proposed actions would be meaningful to you as a member of the arts community, and to provide an opportunity to share any additional comments on this initiative. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey will remain open until October 3, 2019.
Government understands the important role arts and culture have in the ongoing social and economic development of Alberta. We also understand that artists can face challenges that are uniquely different from those who work in other sectors. While this initiative will not solve all the issues artists may face, it is intended to take a meaningful step forward in recognizing the importance of this sector, and provide an additional support for artists making their careers in Alberta.
