THE IMPROV CONSERVATORY

Grindstone Theatre is proud to announce that we are offering a new program; The Improv Conservatory! The Improv Conservatory is an audition-based program for those interested in professional improv performance. Those chosen for the conservatory will participate in a weekly improv training session led by Artistic Director Byron Martin and professional guest instructors from the professional improv community. The conservatory is a 3 month ensemble program which concludes in participants creating and performing Long-Form improv shows as part of the programming at The Grindstone Comedy Theatre.

Fall Intake: $100 (10 sessions)
Sundays, 6:30 – 8:30 PM
October 13, 2019 – December 15, 2019
Performances: January – March 2020

Winter Intake: $110 (11 sessions)
Sundays, 6:30 – 8:30 PM
January 12 – March 29, 2020
Performances: April – July 2020

Note: Although the program has a cost in order to pay instructors, Conservatory Members are paid an honorarium for Conservatory performances after they complete the program.

Prerequisites:
Applicants should have some of the following criteria:

  • Have previous improv performance experience either through competitive high-school experience, University groups OR taken improv classes from Grindstone Theatre or other Improv Companies.
  • Enrolled or graduated from a professional theatre training degree or diploma program
  • May not have improv experience but performs at a professional level in other areas such as Stand-Up Comedy, Acting, Musical Performance, Clown or Sketch Comedy.

Auditions will be held for the FALL intake: OCTOBER 6th, 2019. 6:30-10 pm
Winter intake dates: January 5th, 2020. 6:30-10 pm
