Announcement (Alberta): Registration is Now Open for the Community Theatre Summit 2.0

 
The first Community Theatre Summit, held in March 2018, successfully brought together groups from across the province for valuable learning and networking opportunities. Now, Theatre Alberta, Calgary-ACTS, and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity are thrilled to invite Albertan community theatre producers and artists to join us for the second provincial summit.
 
Gather together with peers from across the province to explore a variety of topics through keynotes, workshops, and panel discussions. If you are involved in community theatre in Alberta, this is a must-attend event!

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE SUMMIT

 

SPECIAL INTERNATIONAL GUEST: CAROLE WILLIAMS

Carole is the National Drama Advisor at the Scottish Community Drama Association. She has designed and delivered skills-based workshops to theatre clubs across Scotland and provides assistance with their productions. Carole has a degree in Contemporary Theatre Practice and a post-graduate certificate in Arts and Education from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In addition to delivering a keynote presentation, Carole will lead a workshop onDevised Theatre and Improvisation.
 

WORKSHOPS AND PANELS

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT: Are you or your colleagues feeling burnt out and spread too thin? You will learn how to create positions or opportunities to maximize the impact for your organization while fostering a new understanding of how you work with people.
 
THE COMMUNITY PLAY: Have you ever considered creating a play for your community based on your locale and shared experiences? You will disover how you can write a play that will bring folks together to celebrate the intricacies of what makes your community unique.
 
CONSENT AND INTIMACY IN REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE: Conversations about safety and respect are happening in theatre organizations across the country. You will explore best practices for creating a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone involved in your community theatre company.
 
OTHER TOPICS: Design & tech, fund development, marketing, and much, much more!

The Community Theatre Summit 2.0 is intended for producers, artistic directors, general managers, and board members involved with community theatre organizations in Alberta. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. 
 
Community theatre companies are encouraged to bring two or more participants to best take advantage of all of the content offered at the summit.
 

REGISTRATION AND FEES

Registration Deadline: September 18, 2019
Arrival Date: October 17 or 18
Departure Date: October 20 or 21
Tuition: $340
Banff Centre Registration Fee: $35
Accommodation: private rooms $65/night or shared rooms $35/night
Meals: $41/person/day
Total: ranges from $575 to $800 depending on arrival and departure dates and choice of private or shared accommodations.
 
Prices are approximate, inclusive of GST, and subject to change. An additional fee of $100 will be charged to participants residing outside of Alberta.
 
Current Theatre Alberta members who reside in Alberta and are in financial need are eligible to apply for financial assistance. The deadline to apply for financial assistance is September 11, 2019.
