Downstage is now seeking submissions for programming the 2019/2020 season in Motel Theatre, a flexible 50 seat black-box performance venue located at Arts Commons, 225 8th Avenue S.E. Calgary.
Emerging and established artists and performing arts companies working in all disciplines who are interested in showcasing their work in Motel Theatre are invited to submit proposals for consideration. We are primarily seeking proposals for one or two week time slots, though longer projects will also be considered where possible. Upon the successful scheduling of a proposal, artists/companies will be contacted to arrange more specific details of the tenancy. Proposals will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all available dates are filled. Scheduling of projects will begin June 2018 and we anticipate availability to become limited very quickly.
The weekly rate for Motel Theatre is $1030 for the first week and $790 for additional weeks in the same booking, plus applicable ticket fees. The usage fee reflects the inclusion of a 25% weekly subsidy provided by Downstage, reducing the cost from the weekly fee set by Arts Commons.
Please note: For the 2019/20 season, a weekly booking runs Monday to Sunday.
Interested artists/companies are asked to submit a one page project proposal including:
- a description the work to be presented
- the artists involved
- three choices for the ideal presentation dates
- why Motel Theatre is the venue of choice for the project.
