Mile Zero Dance wraps up its 34th season with a production inspired by cows!
The brand new production debuts on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22at 8 p.m. at Spazio Performativo (10816 – 95 St.).
What started as an idea of creating a concert for cows has transformed into Field Work, a new work from Artistic Director Gerry Morita. Field Work returns to Morita’s rural roots to explore movement and images that involve animals, the land, and the infinite impossibility of ever finishing work.
“Growing up on a farm in Saskatchewan, I was surrounded by these gentle creatures. One of the first dances I did was a dance in a field of cows. I wanted to see if the cows would come and watch, and what that would be like for me,” says Morita. “Field work returns to that idea and escapes the human-centric focus of contemporary dance.”
The new work is created in collaboration with visual artist Kasie Campbell and dancer Theresa Dextrase. The upcoming production is site-specific and will debut in a field in Leduc, AB. Audience members will be meeting at Mile Zero’s Spazio Performativo in Boyle McCauley and transported by bus to a remote location located 45 minutes away.
