Alberta Playwrights' Network

Next month, Alberta Playwrights’ Network will be announcing a brand-new youth
initiative called YouthRiot YEG. Inspired by its twin program in Calgary, YouthRiot YEG
is a free, 10-week program geared specifically towards youth on the LGBTQ2S+
spectrum that teaches different styles of creative writing for performance. We are
seeking a Program Coordinator for our inaugural run of YouthRiot here in Edmonton.
They will work closely with both the Artistic Associate and In-Room facilitator to
organize and execute the program.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Attending all YouthRiot YEG sessions from October to December 2019, including the final presentation
  • Collecting and reviewing applications to the program
  • Assisting in the promotion the program
  • Participating in the process of hiring an in-room facilitator
  • Identifying potential instructors
  • Collaborating with the in-room facilitator to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for the participants
  • Securing a location for final presentations at the culmination of the program
  • Contracting performers for the final presentation, as needed

Requirements:

  • Background or prior experience in project coordination, youth education, group facilitation, or similar areas
  • Must feels at ease working with teenagers and young adults
  • Capable of self-motivating and of working with a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative problem-solving/conflict resolution abilities
  • Satisfactory background screening is required for this position, which includes a Criminal Record Check/Police Information Check
This is a part-time contract position with an approximate start date of June 3, 2019 and
an approximate end date of December 8, 2019. The time commitment is flexible over
the spring and summer, but will increase in September as the program start date
approaches. Compensation for the position is $3000.
