Tasks and Responsibilities
The Director will direct an adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s plays with a culturally diverse cast that is at least half female. They will:
- Set the vision for the piece
- Direct the collaborative process of adapting the play, staging it, and designing it.
- Be present at rehearsals to guide the actors as they develop the actions of the play.
The Artistic Director, Mark Henderson, shall supervise the Director, who shall attend rehearsals for an hour every third day. The rehearsal hall is in the same building as the office, so there will be plenty of opportunity for pre or post-rehearsal meetings.
Senior Theatre artists Jennifer Spencer and Mark Henderson will mentor the Director. They will attend rehearsals and meet with the Director afterward to give advice and positive feedback, based on their experience of having directed multiple professional Shakespeare productions and adaptations.
