Job (Edmonton): Actor – Theatre Prospero

Description

With direction from the Artistic Director, actors will develop an adaptation of a Shakespearean play for presentation at Thousand Faces Festival. The play will be one hour and ten minutes long, with particular attention paid to developing a culturally diverse cast and gender parity. There is an opportunity for an all-female cast. The adaptation will be presented in Edmonton high-school junior high and post-secondary classrooms through extensive touring in May and June. There will be options for audience participation in minor roles.

On-Site Supervision

The artists will dedicate their time to the production and performance of a Shakespearean adaptation. During rehearsal, they will be supervised by the director and stage manager, who will be at all rehearsals. During the performances and tour, the stage manager will supervise the actors. Through all of this, there will be significant oversight from the artistic director and general manager. Detailed rehearsal, production, and touring schedules will be created for 2019, and artists will be required to comply with scheduling and ensure they are available. As such, they must be in communication with the Theatre Prospero stage manager and tour manager.

Job Coaching

Senior artist Jennifer Spencer, a professional director, actor, playwright and acting and voice teacher at MacEwan University, shall lend her expertise for the critique and shaping of this Shakespearean adaptation. As the artist-in-residence program is shaped around their completed play, they will work as a team with Ms. Spencer to create a suitable program that will meet the needs of elementary and high school students that attend workshops.
