What’s On (Edmonton): Mile Zero Dance presents – No Guesses Found by Amber Borotsik and Jesse Gervais

Life is full of unknowns, but we navigate through it regardless of the outcome. Local artists Amber Borotsik and Jesse Gervais explore life’s uncertainties in No Guesses Found, a new production for Mile Zero Dance’s (MZD) Dance Crush series, on April 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. at Spazio Performativo (10816 95 Street).

No Guesses Found explores all the things we don’t understand but have to move through it,” says Gervais. “If it honours anything, it honours the uniquely human endurance and exercise of navigating the unknown in a beautiful, delicate world.”

No Guesses Found is a cross-pollination of dance, theatre, and sound design to explore the uncertain experience of a serious illness and loss. It is created in collaboration with award-winning theatre director Dave Horak, theatre artist Cole Humeny, and sound designer Aaron Macri.

For Borotsik, this piece showcases the adversities she recently endured in her own personal life.

This piece bubbled out of nowhere. I had some stuff happen to my body that I had to deal with,” explain Borotsik. “Experiencing the fragility and uncertainty of the body through the lens of hospitals, and even extended illness, I was struck by this sort of constant experience of ‘we don’t know,’ or we’ll have to wait and see.’”

This is the first time Borotsik and Gervais will be presenting as part of MZD’s Dance Crush, a series curated by Artistic Director Gerry Morita that showcases Canada’s wide-ranging contemporary dance scene.

Tickets for No Guesses Found are $15 for members and $20 for non-members and can be purchased at Eventbrite: https://noguessesfound.eventbrite.ca or at the door. For more information, visit: http://milezerodance.com/2017/2018-dc-no-guesses-found/
