Auditions (Calgary): Trickster Theatre Open Auditions

Location: Calgary, AB, Canada
Type: Theatre for Young People
Audition Date: May 11, 2019 (Submission deadline is Wednesday, May 8th at 12pm.)

Trickster Theatre (Calgary, AB) will be holding general auditions for local actors in Calgary on Saturday, May 11th, 2019. Present at the auditions will be Artistic Director, David Chantler and Operations Manager, Nimrodel Whiting.

In our main Artist-in-Residency program, we embed a team of artists within a school to co-create an original show with up to 600 actors in one week. Trickster provides all of the curtains, lights, props, sound, & costumes as the school gymnasium is transformed into a live theatre with all of the students performing in the final show. We are looking for theatre artists that are interested in working with students in schools across Alberta.

The Trickster Process was created by our founder and Artistic Director, David Chantler, and is unique within Canada. As a physical theatre company, our artists use a combination of movement, improvisation, and dialogue along with using everyday items such as bamboo poles, pool noodles, pvc pipes, tablecloths, etc to create original plays each week within schools. Artists are involved in every aspect of the production and will learn how to integrate sound, lights, and tech cues into all of their pieces and become more familiar with how to set up and run a touring theatre rig.

Once artists are on our team, a series of one week contracts are offered for the season (Sep-Jun). Artists may have anywhere from 5-20 contracts per season based on the number of schools booked in the season and individual artist availability (newer artists will typically have fewer contracts in their first year with the company as they go through a training process).

Artists are invited to apply for an audition by sending an electronic copy of your resume and headshot to production@trickstertheatre.com. Please include Trickster General Auditions in the subject line. Please indicate any time restrictions you may have on the audition date.

Trickster Theatre will contact individuals selected for audition to set up a time slot. Artists who have been contracted by Trickster Theatre in the past two seasons do not need to submit, only to contact the office to express interest in working with the company again.

Audition Requirement: This will be a group audition that will be fairly physical and improvised in nature. We will be taking you through some of the physical theatre processes that we use during our residencies (you can check out some of what we do on our website – www.trickstertheatre.com). Please wear clothing that you can move in and bring a water bottle.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Nimrodel at production@trickstertheatre.com
