Theatre Workshop Directing Musical Theatre

Sherard Theatre is proud to present the first in our Workshops by Request: Hometown Series workshop for 2019, Directing Musical Theatre with instructor Kate Ryan. Saturday, February 16 11AM-5PM at Workshop West Playwrights Theatre, 11516 103 St, Edmonton.

Workshop topics include:

  • Explore history and various styles of musical theatre writing and direction
  • What to prepare before, during and after a musical production
  • Methods for addressing all aspects of a production.
  • Collaboration (many chefs in the kitchen of creativity!)
  • Planning and applying different techniques in rehearsals (Group work involved here)
  • Tackling common problems and devising solutions.
  • Producing musicals in Edmonton (large and small scale).

Kate has directed and taught for over 20 years here in Edmonton. She is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program and has studied voice and acting. She has received Sterling Awards for her Directing as well as Leading and Supporting Actress and an AMPIA for Leading Actress in film. Kate is the Director of Plain Jane Theatre Company (www.plainjanetheatre.com) and puppeteer/director/writer for Kaybridge Puppets. Her most recent directing credits include All Shook Up, Forever Plaid, Jesus Christ Superstar, and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. Kate is also an instructor and director for Citadel Theatre’s Young Musical Theatre Company and MacEwan University’s Theatre Arts program.
