We’re a performing artist group that offers French-Canadian workshops and performance-based educational programming in schools across Canada (mostly based in Alberta). Gilbert Parent – founder of the company and performing artist- has been running this company successfully for over 35 years! We’re a well-known and loved company in the educational entertainment community. We’re looking to have someone take over for Gilbert as Artistic Director in the near future as he approaches retirement. This is a very successful company with potential for growth and artistic input.

Requirements:

  • Francophone or Bilingual (strong French speaking component to this job)
  • Schedule Flexibility
  • Willingness to work part-time to invest in the required training (role will gradually move into fuller-time work)
  • Interest in working with kids/youth
  • Experience performing in front of large audiences (400 people is an average audience size for us)
  • Personality traits: Reliable, punctual, energetic, quick-learner, able to think on feet, confident, self-starter, highly motivated
  • Interested in long-term employment
  • Good singer (our shows involve singing call and response French-Canadian folk songs)
  • Musically inclined (playing instrument not required, but there’s a big musical component to our programs)
  • Enthusiasm for French-Canadian culture is a strong asset
  • Interest in videography and online program development an asset
  • Vehicle is required

Role Description:

  • The successful applicant will train alongside Gilbert to become comfortable in the role of eventually performing/offering programs independently in schools
  • Programs include: Our signature “Stories of Canada” performance (60 minutes), Traditional Dance workshops, Musical Spoon workshops, Story-telling, 1-5 Day Artist-in-Residency Programs and our famous Maple Sugar Shack (maple taffy on ice)-Setting up equipment for shows
  • We follow the school year calendar, working Sept-June with winter (January-March) being our busy season
  • Training will happen in real time! This will be very hands on training.

Wage: 15-30$/hour

Official training will begin January 2019 (with a few training sessions occurring in November & December)
