Volunteer (Calgary): Nightswimming’s PURE RESEARCH program

Nightswimming’s PURE RESEARCH program is conducting two performance research labs next week at the University of Calgary. And we’re looking for some volunteers to participate in one of the research projects.

We’re part of a week-long symposium on artistic research at the university called Symbiont. You can read all about it here.

The PURE RESEARCH labs are being led by 1. Vanessa Porteous and 2. Reneltta Arluk and Patti Flather. Read about their research here. In short, Vanessa is looking at silence as an overlooked tool for directors; Reneltta and Patti are exploring Indigenous language in performance.

The request: Reneltta and Patti are seeking 4 volunteers to participate as “audience” members next Monday/Tuesday (Nov 12 & 13) from 2-6pm at the university; and a second group of 4 volunteers next Wednesday (Nov 14) from 2-5:30pm. These folks will watch scenes and experience ‘translations’ in different ways to test the communication merits of each approach and be asked to respond during the session. No preparation or prior experience is required.

This research is very exciting and valuable, and this invitation is one way we can share the process and some of the discoveries with members of the Calgary community.

If you’re interested and available for either of those groups, we’d love to hear from you.
