ABBEDAM is a student ran organization with the focus of putting up full scale productions each year. It focuses on giving both students of the U Of A and recent graduates chances to participate in all facilities of putting up a show (acting, directing, publicity, design). Founded in 1995, making this our 23 production to date we want to get bigger and better and make our company known!

Loveplay by Moira Buffini explores our shared experiences of the tumultuous and wondrous thing we call love. Taking place on the same square of land and spanning two millennia, we come to find how we evolve in the face of it, but especially, how we remain the same.

“I have always wanted to direct Loveplay from the moment I first saw it performed. To me, Buffini’s play encompasses why we come to the theatre and why we create it – to try to understand who we are and why we do what we do. Its two-millennia-spanning exploration of love through time, shows us in the most honest of ways that we are more similar than we are different.”

“I chose to produce this play specifically as an ABBEDAM production for its ability to really showcase the talent and passion of a large range of emerging artists in the department. The subject matter is far from easy and the structure of the show makes main characters of them all. This has pushed those involved as artists and as people. For myself, it has been a joy to watch the actors dig in to these characters and transform and build their world alongside the designers.”

Loveplay takes place at 7:30 pm on November 1st to 4th , as well as Sunday November 4th at 2 pm in Second Playing Space, at the Timms on the UAlberta campus
