Announcement (Alberta): Registration for Intimacy Direction is Now Open

Theatre Alberta and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity are thrilled to announce that registration is open for the second Workshops by Request: Rocky Mountain Series master class of the 2018/2019 season.

INTIMACY DIRECTION with SIOBHAN RICHARDS

November 30-December 2, 2018
Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
Application deadline: October 31
This workshop is presented in partnership with Rosebud School of the Arts

Participants in this master class will gain a greater understanding of the role of an Intimacy Director through immersion in the work, learning how to begin to incorporate best practices in rehearsal and giving them a solid foundation should they pursue further training in this area. Topics will include communication of personal boundaries; how to physically and emotionally prepare actors for scenes of intimacy; choreographing simple scenes of intimacy (i.e. “they kiss”); violent intimacy; consent in the theatre workplace; and psychological safety.

This program is aimed at directors or choreographers with some experience staging intimate scenes, as well as instructors who work with actors in post-secondary or other theatre training programs. Movement training and mental health first aid training are assets but not compulsory.

Siobhan Richardson is an Intimacy Director, co-founder of Intimacy Directors International, and the only person in Canada recognized as an Intimacy Director by Tonia Sina, founder of the Intimacy For The Stage method. Siobhan is quickly building an impressive resume in this field, including several directing and teaching credits across Canada, Europe, and the USA.

Please note that this is not a formal Intimacy Director certification course, as certification of Intimacy Directors is an emerging and highly individualized process.

Tuition: $375
Accommodation: private rooms $65/night or shared rooms $35/night
Meals: $41/person/day
Total: ranges from $575 to $800 depending on arrival and departure dates and choice of private or shared accommodations.
