Fire Exit Theatre is seeking actors for their
February 2019 production of Evergreen.
SYNOPSIS
At the Evergreen, a rural diner off the beaten track, an ex-pastor with a broken marriage takes pains to rebuild his life in a refuge of solitude. But when an inquisitive customer divines information a little too close to home, two strangers wrestle with a series of coincidences and the significance behind their connection. An intimate story of unexpected intersections and stumbling upon someone who has strength to make you stronger.
World Premiere of the 2018 Winner “Scripts on Fire” New Play Competition

SCHEDULE: Rehearsals will begin in Fall 2018 (November) and take place on evenings and weekends (approximately 10-12 hours a week) with a short break over Christmas. Tech rehearsals are Feb. 3rd – 5th with performances running from Feb 6th-10th. Actors will be asked to participate in a script development workshop prior to the beginning of rehearsals.
HOW TO PREPARE: Please prepare a contemporary monologue of one minute in length. The monologue may be comic or dramatic, and should be something that you are emotionally connected to rather than a “good character monologue.” Pick something that resembles you at your most truthful. Actors will also be sent a side from the play to prepare, once we have received your request for an audition time.
HOW TO SIGN UP: Auditions will take place at Village Church (823 64 Ave. NW) on Saturday, Sept. 22nd from 1:30-6:30 p.m. Please schedule an audition time by emailing Val Lieske at val@fireexit.ca. Further auditions and callbacks will be scheduled as necessary (possibly Sunday, Sept. 23rd). Please indicate which role you will be auditioning for.
Frank: (Male: late 30’s to early-mid 40’s Proprietor of the Evergreen cafe. Collected but with a conflicted past.
Angela: (Female: mid 20’s) A customer with a mystical gift but an abrupt manner. Intensely private about personal details.
Marian: (Female: 30’s to mid 40’s) A co-owner of the cafe and sister-in-law to Frank. Protective, considerate, and very pregnant.
Fire Exit Theatre is a non-equity semi-professional theatre company. Actor honorariums are paid.
