Playwrights Guild of Canada Announces the
First Annual Tom Hendry Nominee Gala
Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) is thrilled to announce the first annual Tom Hendry Nominee Gala. In collaboration with the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto and the Storefront Theatre’s Sing For Your Supper, the event will be held on Monday. September 24th at the Arts and Letters Club.
Playwrights Guild of Canada was first approached by members of the Toronto theatre community about hosting an event that would honour Canadian playwrights and bring artists across Toronto together. The Tom Hendry Nominee Gala is a chance to achieve both these goals by providing an evening of community interaction and celebration of achievement in Canadian playwriting.
Of this year’s seven Tom Hendry Awards, the nominees for six will be announced live at the event. These awards include the Carol Bolt Award, the Stage West Comedy Award, the Stage West Musical Award, the Robert Beardsley Award, the inaugural TYA for Playwrights Award, and the RBC Emerging Playwright Award. Excerpts from the plays shortlisted for the RBC Emerging Playwright Award will be performed throughout the evening by the Storefront Theatre’s Sing For Your Supper. These cold-reading performances are sponsored by the RBC Emerging Artist Project.
Doors will open at 5:30, with dinner to be served at 6:30
