2 Day Classical Acting Intensive- Shakespeare

Friday 7th & Saturday 8th September 2018, 2-6pm

Explore iconic scenes; unpack complex language and improve your audition technique with the internationally-acclaimed directors behind Malachite Theatre.

Malachite Director Benjamin Blyth has produced Shakespeare’s plays in theatres all around the world: including the UK, EU, US, Canada and China. Benjamin trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the University of Cambridge in England. He is the Artistic Director of London’s site-specific Shoreditch Shakespeare Company, and is currently in Alberta completing a PhD in Shakespearean Performance Practice at the University of Calgary.

Based upon ‘original practice’ performance methodologies, our intensive short courses will set you on a new path with classical text, helping you to stand out in this competitive industry by speaking Shakespeare’s language with confidence. Our sessions are open to actors of all ages and skill levels wishing to improve or refresh their approach to Shakespeare.

All sessions run for 4 hours from 2-6pm. 20% OFF for CAEA Members!

$100 per day or $150 for the full course.

DAY 1 – September 8 – Intro to Elizabethan Performance Techniques: A crash course in contemporary and contextual approaches to Shakespeare especially focused on the challenges that classical texts present actors in the 21st century. Improve your verse reading, refresh your methodological approaches to text, and hone your audition technique in this introductory workshop. Refresh existing audition pieces and discover new ones with this intensive introduction course.

DAY 2 – September 9 –From Page to Stage – Shakespeare’s Text in Practice: Apply the skills developed in Day 1 to performance practice, with a focussed exploration of Shakespeare’s greatest plays in rehearsal and performance. In Day 2 participants will share and explore short duologues and set speeches from across Shakespeare’s canon, building familiarity with character and context in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Registration deadline is Monday September 3rd. Please note that places are strictly limited, and a $50 deposit is required to book your place on the course.
