Rehearsals begin in Winnipeg December 10, 2018
Winnipeg run January 8 – February 2, 2019

Rehearsals begin in Edmonton February 8, 2019
Edmonton run February 16 – March 17, 2019

Rehearsals begin in Vancouver May 9, 2019
Vancouver run May 16 – July 14, 2019 (with possibility of extension to July 28)

We are only accepting submissions from young artists who reside in one of the three producing cities; Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Video submissions will not be accepted.

Please submit only if you are able to attend the audition in person.
Please write “Matilda Vancouver,” “Matilda Edmonton,”
or “Matilda Winnipeg” in the subject line.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS:

Matilda’s parents don’t understand her. At all. Her school life is no picnic under the iron rule of the frightful Miss Trunchbull. Armed with a vivid imagination and razor-sharp intellect, this delightfully defiant little girl resolves to change her destiny.
Matilda is bright, gifted, and filled with curiosity. She must have strong speaking and singing skills and possess a high level of understanding of the text.

AGE RANGE: Artists must be a minimum of 8 years old by December 1, 2018
*Please include Date of Birth on your submission
HEIGHT RANGE: Maximum height of 4’ 6” at the time of the audition
*Please include your current height on your submission
VOCAL TRAINING: Minimum 2 years; vocal range Ab3 – F4 (needs strong mid range); Should have a good ear and is preferably musically literate
DANCE TRAINING: We are seeking intermediate level dancers and above (minimum 2 years of focused dance training), who demonstrate musicality and athleticism. Tumbling and acrobatic tricks are an asset but not required.
OTHER TRAINING: Please provide a list of any other training and skills including but not limited to:

  • List of dance disciplines studied
  • Gymnastics/ acrobatics training
  • Magic skills
  • Workshops or camps that enhance performance skills

ADDITIONAL INFO: No dialect required for the audition or the production.
*Please note these auditions are only for the role of Matilda. More information will be released in the fall regarding youth auditions. The youth ensemble will be cast locally in each city.

WE WELCOME SUBMISSIONS FROM ALL YOUNG ARTISTS OF ANY ETHNICITY WITHIN THE AGE RANGE AND WITH THE EXPERIENCE WE ARE SEEKING.
Audition requirements:
– Those selected for auditions will be required to sing and read from the show, and participate in a dance call
– Sides and music will be available at http://royalmtc.ca/Auditions.aspx by June 1, 2018.
