The third and final installment in Mile Zero Dance’s (MZD) Night Cuts series features
Bach’s Goldberg Variations.
The third and final installment of Night Cuts will feature MZD Artistic Director Gerry Morita and SubArctic Improv curator Jen Mesch improvising to a repertoire of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, performed by Canadian pianist Roger Admiral with live haircutting by Tony the Venetian Barber on Saturday, April 21 at Spazio Performativo, 10816 95 St.
Night Cuts is an original, multidisciplinary performance created by Artistic Director Gerry Morita that combines improvised dance and music with live haircutting.
This is a performance where audience members are invited—and encouraged—to participate in the grooming services offered on that night. Haircuts are free with the cost of admission and available on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets for the show are $15 MZD members / $20 non-members via Eventbrite (https://nightcuts.eventbrite.ca) or at the door. Haircuts at 7:30 PM, show at 8 PM.
Roger Admiral is a Canadian pianist based in Camrose, AB. He has commissioned and premiered many new compositions and works regularly with UltraViolet (New Music Edmonton) and Aventa Ensemble (Victoria). Recent performances include: Gyorgy Ligeti’s Piano Concerto with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the complete piano works of Iannis Xenakis for Vancouver New Music, a recital with baritone Nathan Berg at Lincoln Center’s Great Performers Series (New York City), with Guillaume Tardif at Carnegie Hall, and recitals for Curto-Circuito de Música Contemporânea Brazil with saxophonist Allison Balcetis.
