What’s On (High River): The Addams Family A New Musical Comedy

Windmill Theatre Players is launching its 44th year of community theatre with The Addams Family Musical. This show is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. Directed by Lisa Auton.

The Addams Family musical stage show is based on Charles Addams‘ characters from the cartoons rather than the television and film characters. The cartoons depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre. In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the things their best dreams are made of.

In this musical, that lovable family of ghoulish kooks is alive and well and living in their super-spooky mansion in Central Park. The Addams family, led by the strong, capable Goth-like matriarch Morticia, and her ever-devoted husband Gomez, is about to be introduced to serious change. Their daughter Wednesday (think Wednesday’s child is full of woe), now 18, has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a nice, normal college student from a respectable family. Comic chaos ensues when Wednesday invites Lucas, along with his “normal” family, to dinner.
