Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre (WWPT) is a professional, Edmonton-based theatre dedicated to the development, production, promotion, and presentation of new Canadian playwrights and their plays, and to the education of the public in playwriting skills. Celebrating its 40th year in 2018, WWPT has been considered one of the most outstanding new play companies across the country. We have produced over 100 plays and over seventy world premieres of some of Canada’s finest playwrights.

Led by an award winning management team, with oversight from a dedicated board, WWPT is on a growth trajectory. Our current season’s work highlights our commitment to fostering positive social impact, giving voice to underserved communities and mentoring the next generation of playwrights. We are excited about building on this solid foundation as we embark on the next phase of our strategic plan.
As a Board Member, you will assist the organization with policy creation, financial oversight, fundraising and overall strategic direction. You will review and act upon committee recommendations brought to the board and provide governance, financial oversight and support to the Artistic Director and General Manager.

Desired Skills: We’re looking for professionals who are passionate about the arts, theatre, playwrights and having positive social impact. Skills or experience in any of the following areas would be considered assets but are not required to apply: Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, Fundraising and Board Governance.

Commitment: Successful candidates will be required to attend board meetings on a monthly basis as well as any additional committee meetings. Board meetings are typically held monthly on the last Tuesday of each month (a minimum of 6 meetings per year). Board Members are expected to serve on a minimum of one committee. Board members are asked to serve a minimum two year commitment. Estimated monthly time commitment is 2 to 4 hours a month.
