Mile Zero Dance (MZD) Dirt Buffet Cabaret returns Thursday, February 1 with Edmonton-based artist Mpoe Mogale as curator and host. Mpoe, along with Adanna Onuekwusi, Adesewa Adeleye, Brandon Wint, Ivan Touko, Lebogang Disele, Leshan Masikonte, Omono Udo, Riwo Egor, and Shammy Belmore, will be presenting What (Black) Life Requires.
What (Black) Life Requires is an interdisciplinary performance which fuses modern, contemporary, ballet, afrobeat, and hip hop dance styles with Brandon Wint’s spoken word poetry and MelAfrique-Melanin from Africa’s live music to explore the resilience, ingenuity, diversity and brilliance of Black Life. The piece is a powerful expression of Black creative unity, diversity, and womanhood, which explores the tension between personal narrative and collective experience within the context of Black life in Canada.
