News (Edmonton): Fringe Theatre Proud to Announce Westbury Family Theatre Award

Fringe Theatre is proud to announce the Westbury Family Theatre Award. This annual award will provide one local artist, group, or company with $25,000 in funding towards the creation of a new work to be presented as part of the Fringe Theatre Spotlight program in the following season. The award is given annually and includes $5,000 cash, a theatre venue for the rehearsal and run of the show, technicians, and more.

This award honours Drs. Robert & Marilyn Westbury, who have provided a lifetime of leadership and generosity towards theatre arts. This award is funded through a legacy endowment, ensuring artists have the resources to create new and exciting theatre for generations to come.

This award will allow us to lift up local theatre artists by providing significant financial and mentorship support for the creation of a new work,” said Artist Director Murray Utas. “Fringe Theatre is known for fostering artistic opportunity for theatre professionals at all levels of their career. This award will allow us to meaningfully invest in the local community, while creating valuable opportunity for new work in our theatre season.

The Westbury Family Theatre Award is open to emerging and established theatre professionals in the Edmonton area. The deadline to submit is 11:59pm MST on December 31, 2017.
