Auditions (Edmonton): “A Little Piece of Heaven” – St. Albert Dinner Theatre

Auditions: St. Albert Dinner Theatre
A Little Piece of Heaven” by Matthew Carlin
Nine shows, Feb. 8-10, 15-17, 22-24, 2018

The play: An unlikely relationship is forged in the quirky tourist shop called “A Little Piece of Heaven.” Restless biker Mike, who works in the shop, finds a friend in the sassy elderly Lily, although their relationship certainly doesn’t start out that way. But there’s something odd about this little shop owned by the equally odd Elizabeth and Henry. Suspicion and disagreement turn to respect and trust in this place where long lost things are finally found.

The Characters: 8 men, 8 women, flexible

Henry (m): Owner of “A Little Piece of Heaven,” mid-fifties
Elizabeth (f): Co-owner of the shop and Henry’s wife, younger than Henry by 15 years or so
Judith (f): The town’s mailperson, early thirties
Jared Havens (m): Long time friend of Henry’s and about to turn fifty
Glory Havens (f): Jared’s wife, a dozen or so years his junior
Michael Cain (m): Pleasant looking man in mid-thirties. When we first see him, he appears to be a biker, Harley and all.
Frank Thomas (m): A customer in the store, mid-thirties
Janet Thomas (f): Frank’s wife, of the same age
Girl (f): Frank and Janet’s daughter, around age eleven
Boy (m): Frank and Janet’s son, around age seven
Lily Adair (f): A woman who appears elderly only in her age of 87
Herb (m): Jared’s elderly father
Deb (f): Jared’s elderly mother
Sam (m):  Judith’s boyfriend, a librarian of around thirty
Man/Woman (m/f):  Another customer in the store, a young man/woman in their late twenties
Lily St. Lohn (f): An attractive woman in her late twenties, early thirties. She is Lily Adair’s granddaughter.

The Troupe:
St. Albert Dinner Theatre is a volunteer-run community theatre in its seventh season of providing a relaxed, fun atmosphere, with great food and entertainment. We have a growing following of season subscribers and volunteers who keep coming back to join our theatre family for an enjoyable night out. On performance evenings, we are happy to offer meals to performers.

The performers:
We are looking for hard-working, dedicated performers, who love the team effort of rehearsal and collaboration. If you also know how to swing a paint brush or wield a drill, we certainly welcome the team efforts at production time! The characters of Mike and Lily have a waltz scene, so some movement skill set is an asset.
