THEATRE ENCOUNTER seeks a daring male performer for their March 2018 production of MURDERER, THE HOPE OF WOMEN directed by Michael Fenton.
DATE: Sunday, October 1st 2017
TIME: 12:00 NOON
LOCATION: The Abattoir @ cSpace King Edward (135 1721 29th Ave SW Calgary)
ABOUT THE PLAY: written by German expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka, this short piece was met with much criticism after its premiere in 1909, owing to its modernist, avante-garde approach.
Set in a distant, feudal past, the play follows the siege of a tower carried out by a band of warrior men against an army of women. Themes of gender, war, sex and power permeate this intense piece, which calls on performers to present the conflict physically moreso than through dialogue.
ABOUT THE AUDITION: Director Michael Fenton will facilitate the audition, which will have both a group and individual component. For the individual portion, auditioners will be asked to prepare a short classical monologue and a movement piece.
Auditioners will be considered not only for this piece, but for future productions with the company. This audition presents a great opportunity for interested performers to get a taste of Encounter’s approach to work.
For more information or to register to audition, please e-mail Val Duncan at artisticproducer@theatreencounter.com
