AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT (Calgary):

Fire Exit Theatre is seeking female actors for their production of Marion Bridge running Jan 31-Feb 4, 2018. Marion Bridge is a play by Canadian Playwright Daniel McIvor.

“Three women in their thirties come “home” to Cape Breton to be with their dying mother. Each in her own way tries to deal with the painful loneliness of their lives – each is trying to reconcile what they have become with what they thought they wanted out of life and with what they thought their parents wanted for them. Nothing, of course, has turned out exactly the way anyone imagined it would.”

SCHEDULE: Rehearsals will begin in January 2018 with a couple initial rehearsals in November or December based on availability. The rehearsals will take place on Monday evenings and weekends through January. Tech rehearsals are Jan 27-30 and performances run from Jan 31-Feb 4, 2018.

HOW TO PREPARE: Please prepare a 60-second monologue. The monologue can be contemporary or classical, comic or dramatic, and should be something that you are emotionally connected to rather than a “good character monologue.” Pick something that resembles you at your most truthful. Actors may also be asked to cold read scenes from the play.

ROLES: We will be auditioning for all three female roles – between 30 to 45 years of age, a good family chemistry will play a big role in casting this show. Please note that ages should reflect what you read onstage – not your actual age.

Agnes MacKeigan, eldest sister, 30s-40s– an unsuccessful actor who has made her home in Toronto.  Often drinking or drunk.  Had a child out of wedlock very young.  Loud mouthed and boisterous, she carries with her a lot of sadness and harbours deep regrets about giving up her child.

Theresa MacKeigan, middle sister, 30s-40s – a progressive nun who works on a farm in New Brunswick with her convent and has begun questioning her faith. Very much the peacemaker and caregiver.

Louise MacKeigan, youngest sister, 30s – the “strange one”.  Never left home and finds solace in her favorite soap opera as an escape from adult life. Has a hard time keeping a job, or being motivated to leave the house.
