Charlotte Cameron is pleased to announce the publication of her second book. October Ferries to Gabriola (Fictive Press, 2017) is inspired by the life of Malcolm Lowry, whose novel Under the Volcano is considered a 20th century masterpiece. Tipping her hat to Lowry’s autobiographical and posthumously published novel, October Ferry to Gabriola, Cameron juxtaposes the struggles of Lowry and his wife with the plight of a contemporary couple, who also come to Gabriola Island looking for a place to live, love and write.
Cameron’s other historical play, Running: The Alex Decoteau Story (Fictive Press, 2014), recounts the short life of Edmonton’s first aboriginal policeman, who was also an Olympic runner and World War I hero. Running – The Alex Decoteau Story (1887-1917) premiered at The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival in 2001. The fall 2017 official opening of The Alex Decoteau Park in downtown Edmonton will be a special occasion for everyone who has kept his memory alive.
