Seeking Artists & Projects across disciplines w/ focus on Performance Creation
Theatre Junction, in partnership with the RBC Emerging Artists Project, is holding an open call to performing artists for submissions to conduct research and/or develop a new work in progress in the realm of live art. Every year, six promising emerging artists or groups, who are exploring different aspects of theatrical form and performance, are selected for the TJ LABS program. TJ LABS is a laboratory – a professional studio equipped for experiment, research, teaching and learning. This program is free to artists: mentorship, guidance and technical resources are provided with the goal of exploring ideas for a new work and, potentially, developing it fully over three years, through three studio phases of development: discovery, incubation and creation.
TJ LABS strives to:
- Provide material resources for local artists to develop new work with professional rehearsal and performance space, and technical and professional artistic support.
- Set a standard and provide the opportunity for developing work over time.
- Place value on the process of creating new work by encouraging quality artistic practice, rather than placing value only on the end product.
- Foster a rich community of local artists creating and developing new work in Calgary.
Artists and projects will be chosen across disciplines with a focus on performance creation. This program is open to artists who have at least three years of professional experience, or a post secondary education, and have a desire to develop and explore their own artistic practice and language.
Deadline to submit: July 14, 2017.
