Celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation! One line for each year.
WP Puppet Theatre is creating a community video of a modern day story about Canada’s new avian emblem – the Gray Jay, written by emerging author Aum Nicol. We are inviting one hundred and fifty or more, local, national and international, amateur and professional puppeteers of all ages, and their puppets, to read and record the story, one line at a time. Why? We’re celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation! One line for each year.
We will be facilitating 5 free Canada 150 workshops for groups of up to 30 people to create their own puppets and participate in the video from September 17th to October 22nd 2017. You provide the venue and the participants and we provide the instruction and all of the supplies for your group to make their own puppets and the videographer to record your puppet reading a line of the story.
Does my group qualify? Your group can be a non-profit or charitable organization, business, school, or community group and must be located in Calgary. The program is suitable for children ages 5+, teens, adults and seniors. Children must participate with an adult. We are looking for a diversity of ages and cultural backgrounds. Some of the lines can be read in different languages if the group can translate parts of the story. A group of 30 people is ideal, however, if your group is smaller there may be the possibility of conducting a workshop with two or more groups together.
