Playwrights Guild of Canada2017 Playwriting Conference: “Aspire Together: Through Voice, Place & Play”

The Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) will celebrate its 45th anniversary with a conference entitled, Aspire Together: Through Voice, Place & Play, from June 1 to June 3, 2017.

The conference will begin in Brantford, ON at the Woodland Cultural Centre. Five Indigenous playwrights from across the country will share their stories in designated locations throughout the Woodland Cultural Centre. As Robin Sokoloski, Executive Director of PGC, states, “We are so thrilled to partner with Woodland to present this interactive theatrical experience. I grew up in Brantford with very little knowledge of Six Nations of the Grand River. This free and open event is an opportunity to generate greater connections through story.”

Aspire Together will continue the following day at Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, ON. Panels have been organized in concert with Theatre Ontario, Hamilton Fringe, and Pat the Dog Theatre Creation. Acclaimed playwrights such as Norm Foster and Lisa Codrington are among the conference’s speakers.

A major highlight of Aspire Together will feature playwright Damien Atkins presenting, The Bachelor: Canadian Theatre Edition (The Playwright Picks a Mate). Fifteen Artistic Directors and Literary Managers from all over Canada are confirmed to attend as Damien’s “romantic theatre interests.”
