Announcement (Alberta): New Partnership with Playwrights Canada Press – Theatre Alberta

Playwrights Canada Press

Theatre Alberta proudly announces new partnership with Playwrights Canada Press

Theatre Alberta is proud to welcome Playwrights Canada Press as our newest ‘official’ supporter! (We say ‘official’ because our organizations have a long history of working alongside each other to benefit Alberta theatre artists and playwrights.)

This summer, 300+ teenagers from across Alberta will spend the month of July at Red Deer College studying Vimy by Alberta playwright Vern Thiessen at Theatre Alberta’s Artstrek. Vimy is published by Playwrights Canada Press. Even though we study a Canadian play every three to four years at Artstrek, it has been 25 years since our play of study was a Playwrights Canada Press publication!

Vimy by Vern ThiessenIn celebration of this long-overdue milestone, Playwrights Canada Press is generously contributing a copy of Vimy to each Artstrek student and staff member this year. The published script is an Artstrek student’s most cherished souvenir of their time at the school, and with this year being the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, we couldn’t be prouder to share Thiessen’s beautiful and compelling play with Alberta youth.

The Theatre Alberta Library—the largest fully-circulating theatre library in Canada—currently contains 1,781 titles published by Playwrights Canada Press, nearly 50% of our entire Canadian collection! We’re proud to ensure these plays and reference materials are available to our members across Alberta and the country.

In recognition of Playwrights Canada Press’ support of Artstrek 2017, Theatre Alberta is making a public commitment to purchase this year’s new or replacement Playwrights Canada Press materials for our Library directly from the Press, and not through secondary resellers. We’ll even create a special separate edition of our annual Gift-A-Play campaign this winter so our members and supporters can do the same!

We know all Theatre Alberta members join us in extending our biggest thanks to Playwrights Canada Press for their support of our organization and their ongoing efforts to support and promote Albertan and Canadian theatre!
