SEEKING STUDENTS AND/OR RECENT GRADUATES FOR SUMMER POSITIONS

Theatre Alberta is a provincial arts service organization and registered charity that proudly represents ~1,000 theatre artists, enthusiasts, students, educators, and community and professional theatre companies from across the province. We are dedicated to encouraging the growth of theatre in Alberta by providing the highest quality programs and services:

  • workshops and camps for teens and adults, urban and rural
  • Canada’s largest independent fully-circulating theatre library
  • online resource sharing services for auditions, employment, and productions
  • theatre news, publications, and advocacy

Theatre Alberta requires three highly motivated, detail oriented, and creative workers for the following full-time summer contract positions in our Edmonton office. All applicants should be enthusiastic about theatre, enjoy dealing with people, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Only those individuals eligible to participate in federal and provincial student and/or recent graduate employment programs should apply. Eligibility criteria are different for each position; please review carefully before applying. Special consideration will be given to applicants from the Government of Canada’s employment equity groups.

Artstrek Program Assistant

May 1 to August 18, 2017 (16 weeks)

  • The Artstrek Program Assistant provides vital support to our renowned annual theatre school for teenagers. Artstrek is a residential summer theatre program that has been operating in Alberta for more than 50 years, and attracts more than 300 young theatre enthusiasts from across the province and beyond each summer.
  • Major tasks and responsibilities include student registration, including receipting payments, confirming medical information, and accepting letters of recommendation; student and parent communication; curriculum schedule coordination; materials and equipment coordination; and documentation, evaluation, and archiving.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially experience with databases, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, excellent attention to detail, and a previous history with the Artstrek program (as a student or supervisor) will be considered assets.
  • Interested individuals must be available to work at Red Deer College July 3 through July 9 inclusive. Travel and accommodations will be provided.
  • Applicants for this position should be between 18 and 30 years of age, have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year, and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

Library Assistant

May 1 to August 25, 2017 (17 weeks)

  • The Library Assistant provides vital support to Theatre Alberta’s Library, a collection of more than 20,000 scripts and reference books, and the largest independent and fully circulating theatre library in Canada.
  • Major tasks and responsibilities include library material circulation to Theatre Alberta members (in person and through the postal system); assisting members in selecting materials for reading/ borrowing; managing overdue materials and associated fines; collection development (researching appropriate titles for purchase); receiving and processing new acquisitions; inventory control and maintenance; and library promotional activities.
  • Excellent computer skills, excellent customer service skills, and participation in a post-secondary Library and Information Sciences or Arts and Cultural Management program will be considered assets.
  • Interested individuals must be available to work Monday evenings until 8:00pm.
  • Applicants for this position should be between 18 and 30 years of age, have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year, and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

Programs Associate

May 1 to September 1 (18 weeks)

  • The Programs Associate provides vital administrative support for Theatre Alberta’s operations during the busy summer months and assists our team in implementing several priority initiatives.
  • Major tasks and responsibilities include program outreach and marketing (an analysis of current marketing and outreach initiatives against actual results, and developing strategies and recommendations for future marketing and outreach activities, specifically focused on under-served and under-represented communities); fundraising and advocacy (taking the lead on our annual individual donation campaign for Artstrek scholarships, assisting in the identification of potential program sponsors and partners); research and data compilation (assisting with the research and compilation of data for our annual listing of the upcoming theatre season in the province); and assisting with supervising other summer staff members.
  • Excellent communication skills, excellent computer skills, and participation in a post-secondary Theatre or Drama or Arts and Cultural Management degree or diploma program will be considered assets.
  • Applicants for this position should be between 18 and 30 years of age, and be either current students or recent graduates who are unemployed or under-employed.
