In what ways can we honour, subvert, or explore the concept of gender on stage? In this workshop, we will explore traditionally gendered roles and gestures that we commonly see in improvisation, as well as experiment with subverting and questioning these choices. The focus of this workshop will be on active character-focused scene work, but there will also be time for discussion. Open to all improvisors with basic scene work skills.
The workshop takes place Sunday February 26, from 5:00-7:30 in Classroom C at the Foote Theatre School. Registration is only $50, and available at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/elective-performing-gender-on-stage-workshop-tickets-31237170217.
This workshop has been developed in conjunction with our Saturday show for the month of March; Sphinxes which stars the female and gender non-conforming performers in the RFT ensemble as they explore gender roles and the Bechdel and Sphinx tests through improv.
