Accepting submissions from Alberta-based playwrights & Alberta theatre creators of all backgrounds and experience!
Alberta Theatre Projects welcomes applications from Alberta-based playwrights and theatre creators of all backgrounds and experience for the Enbridge Playwrights Awards. Awards of $3,000 each will be presented to one emerging and one established playwright, fostering the research, creation and development of a new play and nurturing Canadian playwriting talent.
To celebrate and support playwrights living and working in Alberta, this year our Awards will only be open to playwrights with a home address in this province.
EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS: The Enbridge Playwrights Award for an Emerging Canadian Playwright may be used to support the following expenses related to the development of a play:
- Engage dramaturgical expertise (travel costs, artist fees, etc.)
- Undertake a workshop (facility rental, artist fees, etc.)
- Convene a public reading (facility rental, artist fees, administrative costs, etc.)
ESTABLISHED PLAYWRIGHTS: The Enbridge Playwrights Award for an Established Canadian Playwright may be used for the following expenses:
- Financial support to complete a draft of your play (subsistence, child care, etc.)
- Engage dramaturgical expertise (travel costs, artist fees, etc.)
- Undertake a workshop (facility rental, artist fees, etc.)
- Convene a public reading (facility rental, artist fees, administrative costs, etc.)
- Applicants to the Enbridge Playwrights Award for an Established Canadian Playwright must have had at least one play produced by a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT). Please note the name of this theatre on your application.
ALL APPLICATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE:
- Your address in Alberta
- A short synopsis of your play and a writing sample of 2-3 page (please do not include a full draft)
- A brief description of your play development process, your goals and schedule
- A simple budget that outlines how the $3,000 Award funds will be used
- Your current curriculum vitae
- If you are applying as an Emerging or Established Playwright
** Please note that full productions of new plays are not considered eligible projects for this Award. All activities (such as workshops, readings, etc.) must be completed within 2 years of receiving this Award.
This Award is open to all Alberta-based playwrights, who may be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or landed immigrants living in Alberta.
