Y STAGE THEATRE SERIES TO END FOLLOWING CURRENT SEASON
Vertigo Theatre Society announced that the Y Stage Theatre Series will be discontinued following the end of its current season. Founded in 2003, the Y Stage Theatre Series has presented theatre for young audiences from companies across Canada and abroad to children aged 3 and up.
“While the Y Stage Theatre Series has been artistically successful, Vertigo Theatre has carefully considered and identified its strategic priorities for the future of the organization. With a commitment to ensuring long-term financial and artistic sustainability, we are focusing our resources on new play development and mentorship with the BD&P Mystery Theatre Series and will continue to support youth engagement through our student matinee program,” says Curtis Buck, Chair of the Vertigo Theatre Board of Directors.
Artistic Director Craig Hall adds “As the company has evolved, the need to focus our resources on areas that align most directly with our artistic vision make it necessary to re-structure our programming in order to create the greatest opportunities for success. The decision to end our Y Stage Theatre Series programming is not an easy one, but by prioritizing new play development and mentorship we will continue to nurture the next generation of theatre artists.”
Vertigo Theatre’s Y Stage Theatre Series will present The Star Keeper Feb. 24-26, 2017, and conclude with The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer Apr. 21-23, 2017. Tickets for each show are available online at www.vertigotheatre.com or by phone at 403-221-3708.
