It is with great pride that Colin Jackson, Chair, Rosebud Centre of the Arts (RCA) announced that Frank Nickel has been appointed the organization’s new Executive Director. “We are thrilled that Frank, with his deep experience in Arts Management and passion for rural Alberta, has accepted our offer to become part of the Rosebud community and we are preparing to welcome him and his wife, Karina,” said Jackson. Nickel will begin his full-time appointment in Rosebud on May 1, 2017. 

 

“Rosebud Centre of the Arts is where the rich heritage and deep optimism of rural Alberta is expressed and then shared throughout this great province, nationally and internationally,” Jackson continued. “It is where post-secondary students learn the skills of the performing arts supported by a professional resident theatre company and through a faith-infused curriculum. Embracing Alberta’s rural values, our Theatre is renowned for compelling productions that celebrate the human spirit. With Frank leading our exceptional staff Rosebud is assured of a proud and prosperous future.”

 

“I feel extremely honored to be taking on this role with Rosebud Centre for the Arts, and to have the opportunity to work in partnership with Morris Ertman, Artistic Director of Rosebud Theatre, and Paul Muir, Education Director at Rosebud School of the Arts – two of the most exciting theatre artists in Alberta today,” said Nickel. “Rosebud’s Chair and Board have charged me up with their ambitious, inclusive vision for what Rosebud means to the performing arts in Alberta, and indeed, the country.  I will miss my friends at Pacific Theatre, and owe a huge debt of gratitude to Ron Reed who gave me my start in professional theatre over a decade ago.”

 

Nickel was born and raised in British Columbia and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, Theatre Major, from Simon Fraser University. He comes to Rosebud from Vancouver, B.C., where he has most recently served as General Manager of Pacific Theatre. In 2015, Nickel received the John Hobday Award for Arts Management from Canada Council of the Arts. Nickel is a co-founder of two theatre companies, District 13 Presents and Genus Theatre. He also brings a wealth of experience from his various roles on arts and culture boards in the Vancouver area.
