Congratulations to all of the 2017 nominees and recipients with a special shout-out to Katherine Funk, recipient of the 2017 Youth Artist Award!
Katherine Funk is a grade 12 student who began sewing and selling handmade dolls at the age of seven and then, over the past few years, progressed to sewing her own clothing based on vintage patterns. She submitted and presented a Special Project idea to her school’s principal and art program leader in order to study the history of an 18th Century outfit with plans to complete both the research and a garment that would have been worn daily in that period.
Katherine has a passion for fabric, sewing, and history and has plans to pursue a career in Costume Design. Best of luck, Katherine!
