About: Ren is prepared for the inevitable period of adjustment at his new high school when he and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town. What he isn’t prepared for is a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people and guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

This vivacious musical is directed by Dave Horak, with musical direction by Janice Flower and choreography by Jackie Pooke. Set design is by Guido Tondino, with lighting design by Scott Peters, costume design by Hannah Matiachuk and sound design by Brian Maxwell.

“There’s a great deal of heart in Footloose. I grew up in the 1980’s and it’s amazing that the movie is over 30 years old! I’m excited to bring this musical to the MacEwan season. Students and audiences will be surprised at how relevant the story is and how the music still stands the test of time.” – Dave Horak
