“Voice for the Actor” with Jane MacFarlaneThis course is an introduction to the nature of voice production and articulation. The emphasis will be on freeing the natural voice as it pertains to performance.
Over the 12 weeks, we will:
- Identify habits and blocks to the free release of breath through an awareness of the anatomy & physiology of the voice and body.
- Build from a free release of breath to supported and forward placed sound & voice.
- Work practically with text of your choosing, to make the transition from the “warm-up” to application in rehearsal and performance.
This program is an in-depth introduction to voice-work for any actor, an ongoing exploration and deepening of voice-work for the professional actor, but is also accessible and open to anyone that requires extensive use of their voice on a daily basis.
Class runs: Mondays – 7:00pm – 9:00pm, January 23 – April 24, 2017 – 12 sessions.
Cost: $300.00

Jane has taught Voice for the Actor for over 20 years at such institutions as U of A, U of C, MRU, York, SMU and Harvard. She is the Resident Voice Coach for Theatre Calgary and has worked with Vertigo Theatre, Lunchbox Theatre, ATP, Sage Theatre, Theatre Junction, and The Shakespeare Company.
