What’s On (Edmonton): “Peter Fechter: 59 Minutes” – Cardiac Theatre

Peter Fechter: 59 Minutes, Cardiac TheatreCardiac Theatre presents Peter Fechter: 59 Minutes

January 10-22, 2017 at the PCL Studio Theatre (ATB Arts Barns)
8:00pm Tuesday-Saturday, 2:00pm Sundays (no show on Monday)

1962, East Berlin. A teenage boy lies in the Death Strip with a fatal bullet wound to the pelvis after an attempt to escape to the West. For 59 minutes, his body remains where it fell – in full view of Western onlookers and Eastern guards. As he dies, Peter’s hearing intensifies and the voices of the people he loves come back to him in his final hour.

Inspired by the death of the real Peter Fechter, one of the first people killed while attempting to cross the Berlin Wall, Tannahill’s play is an ode to risk and love in the face of oppression. With Peter Fechter: 59 Minutes, Cardiac Theatre introduces Edmonton to star Canadian playwright Jordan Tannahill, and one of the works in his Governor-General Award winning collection, Age of Minority.

“Across this city and farther, maybe everywhere, people are destroying themselves for love.”

Featuring: Bradley Doré with Michele Fleiger, Morgan Grau, and Doug Mertz

Tickets: $13-$24 through the Fringe Theatre Adventures Box Office.
